In The Stillpoint
Yearnings for peace in a time where calm meets tradition.
If you’ve just celebrated any tradition centered on thanksgiving … congratulations. You’ve made it through.
This is not to suggest that tradition has no value, but rather, that tradition in our culture has spiritual, physical, and of course, economic costs.
Which is why I want to welcome you to that place beyond … a still point that can allow for … if we let it … pause and reflection.
Broadly speaking, the “still point” might be defined as the state of mind we experience when we have stopped rushing into the future: when we have come to rest in the present moment.
Every other creature on the face of the earth seems to know how to be quiet and still.
A butterfly on a leaf. A cat in front of a fireplace. Even a hummingbird momentarily coming to rest … if even for the briefest of moments.
By contrast, we as humans are constantly on the go. We are losing the ability to be quiet … to simply be present in the stillness that is the foundation of our lives … whether we acknowledge that space or not.
I cannot change that. But I can offer a space which we can populate, if even for a few moments, that offers that kind of peace.
And so, I offer the following brief respite that I hope you’ll enjoy … and re-visit over the course of this holiday season, and beyond:
Title: In The Stillpoint
Length: 12:00
I hope you enjoy it!
PS -
For anyone interested in how the elements of music combine to make a glorious whole, I’m developing a course on Parametric Music Composition.
It’s a gentle, theory-light, and tool-agnostic way to approach composing music.
We’ll discover ways to look at the fundamental elements of music, both one at a time, and then in increasing combination.
Elements including, but not limited to: pitch, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, timbre, and texture.
I’d like to gather some more information about your course preferences, so that it better meets your needs.
If you’d fill out this brief survey, that would help immensely (time to complete <5 min)!
In the future, for more information, and regular course updates … please visit the “Making” tab on my Substack page:
All the best to you in this holiday season, and way, way beyond!
James Anthony
